The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday that Cambodian Premier, Hun Sen, was already to raise bilateral debates with Thai Premier, Abshisit Vejjajiva during a summit meeting that both Prime Ministers will participate in October.
Mr. Koy Kuong, the Ministry spokesman, said that Surin Pitsuwan, ASEAN secretary general, showed the expectation of debates between the two Prime Ministers to resolve the nations’ continuous boundary row during a travel to the Kingdom earlier this week. The two Prime Ministers are planned to take part the Asia-Europe conference in Belgium this October.
Koy Kuong said that Surin asked Prime Minister Hun Sen if he would agree to have a meeting Abhisit and talk about the border row at the conference in Brussels.
‘‘Samdech clarified that he would consent to this debates if Abhisit did, even though so far there has been no clarification that the debates between them will be done,’’ he said.
Koy Kuong said that if the debates in Belgium happen, they would happen without a third side. Thailand said that it protests against the debates in any stage other than a bilateral one.
The report announced that the Oxford-educated premier also raised that the purpose of the Thai leader once again to resolve only between Cambodia and Thailand and he doesn’t want the ASEAN to intervene as the third side.
The Thai leader declared that it had prolonged a parliamentary election to issue the latest round of boundary conciliations with Cambodia , causing officials to allege that Thailand was not interested in dealing with the row in any stage.
Chea Morn, commander of Royal Cambodian Armed Forces Military Region 4, said yesterday the tension between Cambodian and Thailand was more harder and harder along the border because the Thai soldiers fired to the Cambodians in Oddar Meanchey province on Wednesday.
