Moving to another countryAre you moving to another country? Here are some things you need to know before you go.

You just received an exciting promotion that requires you to move to another country, or you just decided to go on and try to build a life with new opportunities overseas. Whatever the reason, moving to another country can be exciting but can also easily turn into a nightmare if not planned properly. Should you hire interstate removalists? What kind of papers do you need to have? How will you find a new place when you get there? Keep reading for a few tips on how to organize a move overseas.

1. Get your papers in order

Moving to another country requires a lot of paperwork. Do you have a valid passport? Get one. Does the country you’re moving to require a special visa? Visit the closest embassy or consulate of the country. Sometimes, residency permits and work permits for new arrivals in the country require references and paperwork from your employer and your bank. Get all the information you need at least a few weeks (if not months) before your moving date so that you can get everything in time and without much stress. Sometimes these papers can be obtained on arrival in the new country, but you’re always better off taking care of these before you leave, if possible.

2. Manage your material belongings

How long will you be gone? If it’s a permanent move, you might want to consider either moving all your furniture and your belongings through an international moving company, or selling your things while still in your original country and buying everything new in your new home. If your new place is furnished, then all you need to decide is whether you’ll store your current furniture or sell it. Depending on the airline you’re using (if you’re flying) you can bring quite a load of clothes with you. Any other non essential belongings can be sent through the mail for much less than courier or moving prices.

3. Think about your health

What’s the health care system in your new country? Do you need private insurance or can you be covered by public health insurance? Does your employer provide medical insurance to its employees? You need to know all these things ahead of time, especially if you have medical problems that require frequent medical attention. Have your medical records sent ahead of you, or bring them along with you on moving day. You’ll want your new doctor to know your file so that he or she can help you. Family doctors can be hard to find in a new country, so make sure to ask those questions at a visit to the embassy or consulate.

These are only a few things you need to know if you’re moving to another country. If you enlist the help of an international moving company, they’ll be able to take care of some of the paperwork for you, but you need to take care of some things on your own. Get the information you need, do your paperwork early and organize your move down to the minute and everything will go well.
